EMILE MARTIN, D.D.S..: For about 20 years that we've incorporated periodontal surgery into our practice, the beauty of it is not only just taking care of people's bleeding gums or pockets, but today's world, you're able to actually grow some of the bone back using a procedure called guided bone regeneration. Basically, it uses augmentation procedures or augmentation materials and in many cases the use of a membrane, which excludes the soft tissue, lets the bone grow back into the area. And now you have not just had the pocket reduced, but you've actually had bone come back up into the area. And that's an area that, again, another technology that we've gotten over the last 25 or 30 years that we didn't have in our bag of tricks.
